Who are English B'Yachad students?

Our students are young Israeli adults between the ages of 21–39 who are at risk of being left out of the best opportunities within the Israeli labor market. 

 

Savvy young Israelis understand that Israeli employers prioritize candidates with English skills over candidates with comparable skills and credentials who lack English proficiency. To get hired or promoted, English is key.

If English is taught in school, why do some Israeli students lack proficiency?  

While English B’Yachad students have basic English skills, ongoing exposure and practice are required to improve fluency. When students’ family members and friends aren’t English speakers, students have little opportunity to practice English.

Which Israeli communities do we serve?

Most of our students come from the Ethiopian Israeli community. As our program expands, English B’Yachad plans to serve other communities in Israel. 

How do students join English B'Yachad? 

Our Israeli partner organizations refer students to the program. The partners offer complementary training and career services to adults from less-advantaged communities.

 

Some students are enrolled in academic or professional training programs. Others are working. All need English proficiency to get ahead.  As a result, these students are highly motivated to learn.

It's the promise of a better future.
